Independence Day Crafts - Fun Activities with the Hands

Do you need some ideas and inspiration for Independence Day crafts?

Decorating and entertaining is fun all year 'round. This is no less true of our nation's national holiday, when you can show off your patriotic spirit with fun holiday crafts.

The crafts are multi-purposed: you can entertain your kids as they help you to make them; you can use them as decoration for this exciting time of year; you can give them as gifts; and / or you can use them for parties. You can spend a great amount of quality time with your children as you do these crafts.

One of the great things about Independence Day on the fourth of July is that the color palette is chosen for you - red, white and blue. You also have stars and stripes to work with. That's it!

Following are some Independence Day craft ideas and Step-by-Step Guides to creating them:

TREAT CUPS

Use these Independence Day crafts at a party to hand out popcorn, nuts, chips or sweets. Or, fill them with take home party favors.

What you'll need:

  • Plain, white paper or Styrofoam cups
  • Markers (red, white, blue)
  • Blue felt or blue construction paper (not too stiff)
  • Glue
  • Silver marker / silver glitter pen OR (to make your life easy) silver star stickers

    How to Make It:

  • Paint red, vertical stripes on each cup. Set aside and allow to dry
  • Cut a strip of blue felt or construction paper, about an inch and a half wide and long enough to encircle each cup. Glue around top edge of cup. Allow to dry.
  • Using either your silver marker or the silver stars, make a pattern of stars around the blue felt. Allow to dry.
  • Fill and enjoy!

    HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY WREATH

This Independence Day craft is a beautiful and welcoming wreath to hang on your door or wall.

    What you'll need:

  • A foam wreath (available from craft stores)
  • Sheets of red, white and blue felt (use old fabric if you have enough suitable materials)
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Thumb tacks
  • Plain glue
  • Glitter glue (preferably in red, white and blue)

How to make this Independence Day craft:

  • Cut the felt into strips, approximately 2 inches wide
  • Cover a section of the wreath with glue. Thumb tack the first section in place, then start wrapping the white fabric (or felt) around the wreath, carefully, allowing each section to overlap with the last so that the foam wreath doesn't show through.
  • Use all the red, white and blue felt or fabric in equal measure, around the wreath, so that you achieve a balanced look with the colors. Ensure you have enough (but not too much) glue on the foam as you wrap it. Tack the last bit of fabric in place, and allow to dry.
  • Wrap a large ribbon of your choice (for example a blue and star spangled ribbon, or red and white strip, etc.) at the bottom section of your wreath.
  • Hang and enjoy!

We hope you and your children enjoy these simple Independence Day crafts. Have fun!
