Romantic Wedding Vows - Useful Ideas and Samples

Are you looking for some fine ideas and inspiration for romantic wedding vows?

As you and your partner await the day of your wedding, you're making decisions about every aspect of that day. From flowers to caterers, bridesmaid's hairstyles to groomsmen's vest color, there are a lot of details that go into the big day.

As you plan through your ceremony, you've got to decide what kind of vows you want. Whether you pick something more traditional or you are seeking something a bit more unique, you definitely want to be sure and pick out some romantic wedding vows to share with one another.

Traditional vows can still be considered romantic, for sure. These are the tried and true vows, the ones you've heard your whole life and seen in movies for years. If hearing traditional style vows gets your heart pounding and brings a tear to your eye, by all means, that might be the right choice for you. See a great example of a traditional vow listed below.

I, Jack, take you, Jill, to be my lawfully wedded wife,
my forever friend, my faithful partner,
and my love, from this day forward.
In the presence of God and our family and friends,
I give to you my vow to be faithful
in sickness and in health,
in good times and in bad,
in times of joy and times of sorrow.
I promise to love you, honor you,
support and encourage you,
respect you, to laugh and cry with you,
and cherish you and our love
for as long as we both shall live.

If you liked that, but want a more loving and romantic wedding vow, look for some less traditional examples of vows. Seek something that says exactly what you want to say.

If you're a funny person, and that's what you're known for and possibly part of the reason your partner fell in love with you, throw in a bit of humor into your romantic wedding vows. If you're a movie fanatic, perhaps you love the Lord of the Rings series, feel free to use a quote from that movie to share how you feel in your wedding vows.

Here are two options for romantic wedding vows which are less traditional.

Jill, you once told me that you are afraid of growing old. You told me then that to grow old means to be alone, and that it frightens you.
But I want you to grow old, Jill. What I mean is, I want you to grow old with me.
I want to watch the wrinkles form on your face, and I want to see every strand of your hair turn white, because to me, you will be the most beautiful, even when you have become all gray, and all wrinkled.
You do not have to be afraid of being alone, my dear Jill, because I will be with you, right here beside you.
Grow old with me, my love.
I promise to love you faithfully, to care for and cherish you, to provide you with support and everything that you should need, as well as to respect and to honor you.
All my days left to me, I vow to spend them loving you.

(this very romantic wedding vow was adapted from a version on http://www.weddingvowsden.com/romantic-wedding-vows.shtml)

Jack, today I become your wife, and you my husband.
I will strive to give you the best of myself, while accepting you just the way you are.
I promise to respect you as a whole person with your own interests and needs, and to realize that those are sometimes different, but no less important, than my own.
I promise to grow along with you, to be willing to face change as we both know change, keeping our relationship alive and exciting.
I promise to love you in good times and in bad, with all that I have to give and all that I am, in the only way I know how - completely and forever.

If none of these less traditional romantic wedding vows appeals to you, take some time to write your own vows. It is perfectly fine to come up with something totally original, or to combine other sets of wedding vows until they are just as you want them. You and your partner know your relationship best, and you'll know the right fit when you find it.

The best strategy is probably to obtain ideas and pointers from other pre-written vows and then to weave them, in your own style and tone, into your very own romantic wedding vow.

Happy writing!
