Do you have bedbugs? Would you even know if you did?

The truth is that many people have bedbugs and don't even realize it, but these little pests can cause you big problems if you don't work to get rid of them. First, though, you need to know the symptoms of a bed bug bite so you can identify and rid yourself of the problem.

While some people have no reaction at all to bedbug bites and may not even notice them, others will wind up with severe reactions to the bites these bugs can leave, so it's important to know what they look like and what some of the bed bug bite symptoms are.

  • Commonly mistaken for mosquito bites, bed bug bites are usually a bump which is darker in the middle. They are often smaller than the bite of a mosquito, however, and might look a little more like flea bites.

  • Bites may occur in a line or a cluster formation on the arms, hands and face of people. But others have noticed that these bites can form on the neck and even the legs or trunk. Essentially, anywhere that you have exposed skin can be bitten.

  • Commonly cause itching, and in some instances, they can become infected when scratched at too much. Most of the time, however, people only experience these bites as a small irritation, and they heal up with no complications at all.

  • Some people can develop an allergic reaction to bed bug bites, which might cause further complications such as severe itching, blisters, and hives at the site of the bite. In some who are allergic, these bites can become quite large and can even cause scars.

If you do find that you wind up with some bed bug bites and are struggling with the itching that they cause, you might want to know that one of the best ways to deal with this bed bug bite symptom is to keep your skin well moisturized. It is well known that dry skin will itch much more.

You can also reduce the itchiness you feel by making sure to take only cool showers no more than once a day, and avoid the urge to scratch your itch, as this can make your bed bug bite symptoms worse.

You should know that bedbugs and bed bug bites are not an indicator of whether or not you and your home or sleeping area is clean. In fact, it's known that even an immaculate space can hold bed bugs. Since these little pests are hard to see, they can live in mattresses, bed frames, in bedding, but even in corners of a home, around dressers, and they can travel from place to place in suitcases and boxes.

If you do wind up with bed bug bite symptoms, or want to protect your home and family from having these frustrating bugs attack your bed, you may want to consider choosing one of the many mattress and box spring encasements that are available today.

If your bed is infested, you should treat your mattress before you encase it, but if you have a mattress that isn't infected, you should encase them as soon as possible to prevent you from getting bed bug bites and suffering from bed bug bite symptoms.
