Home Made Facials - Natural Recipes and Ingredients for Homemade Face Masks

Do you wish to learn how to use home made facials?

When most women think of facials nowadays, we think of going to a beauty salon or spa and having a technician or operator work on them with pre-mixed creams and little thought of ingredients - exotic, natural or chemical.

In actuality, the home pantry is a pretty good place to find ingredients that are of special benefit to the skin. Not only are they good for skin health, they are relatively inexpensive with no chemicals or the many ingredients necessary to preserve the shelf life of the product.

Before considering any product, especially for your face, remember that produce such as citrus or pineapple brightens as well as exfoliates the skin while purifying the pores. These fruits provide vitamin C, and pineapple is an excellent source of enzymes with the ability to soften the skin as it acts as a natural astringent. Thus, for home made facials, these fruits are possible useful ingredients.

Yogurt is another agent that does not only soften the skin, but provides hydration as well. Its many enzymes also exfoliate, cleanse and gently bleach the skin. Honey is a natural astringent as well as has the ability to moisturize. It will tighten the skin, act as a wrinkle retardant (along with cucumber), and help skin that is prone to suffer frequent blemish outbreaks. These natural foods, too, can play a part in home made facials.

The lactic acid of coconut milk can help smooth out the skin, as will oatmeal. Rose water balances and tones the skin, along with vinegar and chamomile. Aloe gel is good for aged skin losing its elasticity, while cucumber reduces puffiness under the eyes and reduces wrinkles. Tomato can work to unclogs pores, while the oils from avocadoes and olives supply essential oils and vitamin E. Both are good for dry skin, too.

With this knowledge, you are on your way toward harnessing the benefits of home made facials, and you can choose ingredients for your face and skin as needed.

The best cleanser is the steam from hot water on a cloth applied to the skin to open pores and draw out impurities. Tone the skin next if needed and massage in exfoliate (such as 1 teaspoon each of yogurt and baking soda) in order to remove dead skin (combination will help soften skin as well). Leave on the skin for up to 10 minutes before rinsing with warm water. If your regime is finished, splash face with cool water to close pores.

Your skin, however, is now ready for a mask if you want to take the next step of a home made facial. For dry skin, puree a ripe avocado and blend it with 4 tablespoons of plain yogurt. Apply this mixture to the face for up to 30 minutes before rinsing with warm water. Another good remedy for dry skin is a mixture of 2 egg yolks and 1 teaspoon each of olive oil and lemon juice. Spread this mixture onto clean skin and leave on for 10 minutes before washing off.

How about home made facials for oily skin? Here, you can try 1 teaspoon each of coconut milk and pineapple juice along with 1 1/2 teaspoon of cornstarch, twice a week. Apply this homemade facial recipe to the face for 10 minutes before rinsing. Another good choice would be 1/2 a cucumber, 1 egg white, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, and 1 teaspoon of coconut milk mixed and applied for 10 minutes.

Olive oil and avocado make an excellent mask for sensitive skin. Combine 1/2 teaspoon of extra-virgin olive oil with1 1/2 teaspoon of mashed avocado and chill briefly before massaging the mixture into the skin. Leave on for at least 5 minutes.

For an antioxidant / anti-wrinkle home made facial mask, combine 1 teaspoon each of fresh orange juice and yogurt. Apply to the skin, leaving on for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing.
