Your fingertips are filled with thousands of nerve endings that respond to temperatures and textures, while your eyes feast on the different colors and shapes that finger foods provide. With these two senses working together, it is sure to increase your level of excitement and anticipation for things to come.
For starters, you could serve an array of seafood, which acts as an aphrodisiac by shooting extra quantities of the right hormones to the right parts of the body. Try mussels, oysters, strips of deep fried fish, prawns and shrimp served with a delicately balanced tart and sweet sauce, with chopped gherkins and cucumber adding to the texture of the sauce. Arrange these delectable finger foods on a platter and use a wide lipped bowl for the sauce, which you can place in the middle of the platter.
For the main course of romantic finger foods, you can serve spicy strips of raw beef, pork and lamb, which you can fry in a fondue pot and then dip into a creamy cheese and peri-peri sauce. Add some parboiled carrot chunks, or you can use any vegetable that is in season to enhance the variety of the platter.
Carefully wash and chop mushrooms into chunks, which you can dip into bread crumbs and then fry in the fondue pot. Chicken and fish nuggets work well with a fondue too, and usually come pre-cooked in boxes which you can leave out of the freezer for a couple of hours to defrost.
There is an array of sauces you could serve to enhance the flavor of these romantic finger foods. Use two to three avocados which you mash lightly with a fork; add some mayonnaise to add some creamy texture. Spice this sauce up with a teaspoon of vinegar, salt to taste, and a dash of cayenne pepper to get your taste buds tingling.
Many grocery stores offer a wide selection of peri-peri or chilli sauces which you could pour into smaller serving bowls to dip your finger foods into. There are also many websites that offer free and easy finger food sauce recipes so you can use your culinary skills to good use.
Perhaps the best part of romantic finger foods is the desserts. Stick with a delectable chocolate theme to get those pheromones racing and add that special sparkle to an already fantastic menu. Bring out that chocolate fountain from the bottom of the kitchen cupboard and add a dash of chili to your chocolate mix for that extra hot flavor. You can lace the delectable chocolate with a good port or sherry to warm you up from the inside. Wash some ruby red strawberries, slice up a few bananas, and peel some kiwis, which you can dip into the chocolate with long skewer sticks.
Don't be afraid to pop delectable combinations of romantic finger food into your loved one's mouth while enjoying each other's company. Who knows where it will lead?
