For instance, 2 tablespoons of soap flakes dissolved in 2 liters of warm water is excellent when sprayed directly onto affected areas every 5 to 7 days. This solution will get rid of aphids, spider mites, and whiteflies.
Another way to get rid of these pests is to use a garlic oil spray. Soak 10 to 15 cloves minced garlic in 2 teaspoons mineral oil for 24 hours. Strain garlic out, add 600ml water and 1 teaspoon liquid dish soap. Mix thoroughly and spray solution directly onto affected plants.
For mildew and black spot, the following mixture makes a very good fungicide. Dissolve 1 teaspoon of baking soda in 1 liter of warm water, and add 1 teaspoon of soap flakes. The soap flakes help the solution to cling to leaves. Remove the infected leaves from the plant, and then spray the top and underside of remaining leaf surfaces to control the spread of the mildew and black spot.

To make a sticky trap for your garden, apply waterproof yellow paint to both sides of 4"x8" plastic cards or cardboard and let it dry. When the paint is dry, apply Unpetroleum Jelly liberally on both sides of the card, and place above the canopy of the plant. This homemade sticky trap will control flying pests such as fungus gnats and whiteflies.
If you have sowbugs in your garden, a very effective sowbug trap can be made, that will really eliminate these pests for good. Cut a small hole at the base of a small container with lid. The hole should be large enough and close enough to allow sowbugs to climb in. Put cornmeal into the container and place the container in the area infested with sowbugs. The sowbugs will feed on the cornmeal, get thirsty, drink water, and explode! Replace cornmeal as and when necessary.
Another of the simple home remedies for pest control is to attract certain insects to your garden that prey on the larvae of harmful insects.
