Homemade Petfood - Recipes for Your Pets

Are you looking for some help for making homemade petfood?

Making homemade pet food may seem like an effort you can avoid, but it could possibly be a cheaper and healthier option for your best friends.

The best pet food should have protein, grains and vegetables in equal parts to ensure that the pets get the maximum amount of vitamins and minerals. This formula will also help their coats to shine and prevent them losing excess hair during season changes.

The following foods should not be included in their diet at all: Macadamia nuts and walnuts, chocolate, mushrooms, moldy foods, garlic (raw, cooked and powdered), grapes and raisins, mustard seeds, onions and onion powder, yeast dough, and any sweets which have the sweetener Xylitol in them. Items like coffee grounds, tea, and alcohol should be kept away from pets completely too.

Here is a great recipe for homemade petfood:

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds minced chicken with no bones
  • 2 1/2 cups frozen mixed vegetables, preferably blended
  • 4 cups cooked white or brown rice
  • 6 1/2 cups fresh, cold water

    Directions

  • Place chicken, vegetables, and rice into a large pot. Stir in water until the mixture is smooth, and bring to boil slowly.
  • Simmer until the rice is cooked and most of the liquid has evaporated. Allow to cool completely and serve.
  • This homemade petfood can be stored in a sealed container in the refrigerator.

For a special treat, make your best friend a hamburger.

    Doggy Hamburger Helper

  • 1 cup minced beef, fried
  • 2 boiled eggs, mashed finely
  • 1 cup mashed green beans
  • 1 cup mashed carrots
  • 2 tablespoons cottage cheese

Mix all ingredients together well and allow to cool. Add a good multivitamin for extra nutrition. Store this homemade petfood in a sealed container in the refrigerator and throw any extras away after a couple of days.

    Doggy Casserole

  • 1 cup boiled chicken or turkey, cut up finely
  • 1/2 cup cooked white or brown rice
  • 1/2 cup boiled mixed vegetables, mashed
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons unsalted chicken extract

Note: Salmon can be used on occasion as a substitute for the chicken.

Mix together well and serve after cooking.

    Sauteed Liver

  • Fry 1/4 pound liver in 1 teaspoon oil. Do not over fry or it will dry out inside.
  • Add 1/2 cup warm water and stir thoroughly.
  • Allow to simmer for a few minutes and then mash the liver pieces if you are serving to small breeds.
  • Add to this homemade petfood some cooked brown or white rice and some cooked, mashed mixed vegetables for the extra vitamins.

    Mackerel Dinner

  • Fry a small mackerel in oil heated to medium temperature and then allow to cool.
  • Take the mackerel out of the pan and add warm water to dissolve the small bits.
  • Debone the mackerel and then mix it with the juice. Pour this over some cooked rice.

Make sure your pet is well taken care of by using these recipes for homemade petfood to beef up their diets and increase their nutrient intake. Hopefully, your best friend will live a long and healthy life with little or no illness.
