All you need is a paper plate, some yellow ink and yellow strips of paper for the petals, and some sunflower seeds to spread along the front. If you really want it to be special, use green construction paper for the stem.
  
  
• Chalk shadows - All you need for this summer craft idea is some white chalk and a section of blacktop or sidewalk. That's it. For this, all you do is simply have your child stand still where their shadow is cast on the blacktop or sidewalk. Take the chalk and follow the outline of their shadow. When you're done, you kids can decorate the shadow with different colored chalks, wigs, and even clothing. Talk about standing in one place for a long time!
  
  
• Paper plate sundials - During the summer months, the sun is at its highest, and its hottest. This is a great time to teach your children some fundamental lessons about the sun and earth and how they interact with each other. Take a paper plate, cut a wedge of triangle from another one, and attach that triangle to the center of the paper plate. Next, place it in a location that receives a fair amount of sun all day long. Mark the top and the bottom. Each day, have your child go out and mark the time of the day it is wherever the shadow's point happens to be on the plate. Do this throughout the summer at enough different times and your child will have his or her own personal clock. The old fashioned way.
  
  
• Buzzy Bees - If you have packing peanuts lying around, they can be used with some tissue paper to make little bees. Your kids can color the peanuts black and yellow, just like bees, and glue the tissue paper to them. This summer craft idea is a fun activity and, before you know it, you could have an entire hive buzzing around your home.
