Baking Valentine Cookies - Simple and Delicious Recipes

Are you thinking of baking some Valentine cookies for your significant other?

Valentine's Day is a fun time and a great opportunity to show your loved ones how much they mean to you. One way to do this is to give them the gift of homemade Valentine cookies.

Cookies are also a great treat to serve to your class at your school or preschool. Here are some great cookie recipes you can make at home.

One great Valentine cookie recipe is the simple sugar cookie. You can make your cookie dough, roll it out and cut it into Valentine shapes such as hearts and cupids.

For this recipe, you will need the following: 2 3/4 cups of all purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder, 1 cup of butter or margarine (softened), 1 1/2 cups of white sugar, one egg, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla.

Combine the sugar and butter and blend. Add egg and vanilla and mix well. Add your dry ingredients and work into a dough. Roll dough out on very lightly floured surface and cut into the Valentine shapes. You can also add a few drops of red food coloring to make your Valentine cookies more festive. Bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 8 to 10 minutes. You can also add sprinkles, colored sugars or other embellishments to your cookies.

Another great Valentine cookie recipe is the Valentine sandwich cookie. For this recipe, you will need the following: 1 cup of butter (softened), 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar, 1 egg, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, 1/2 teaspoon of almond extract, 2 1/2 cups of all purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of cream of tartar.

Blend the butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl until well combined. Add the vanilla, almond extract and egg and mix well. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda and cream of tartar and add to the butter mixture and blend well until a dough forms. Divide the dough into three sections and work with one section at a time.

Roll each section out on a lightly floured surface and cut out 3 inch hearts from each section. Cut a heart shape into the center in half of the cookies. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 7 to 8 minutes. Let the cookies cool completely. Frost one of the solid cookies with pink Valentine's Day frosting and add an open centered cookie to the top to create the sandwich cookie. You can also bake the smaller heart shapes you cut out of the cookies and frost those. These cookies can be used as gifts or treats for your class.

You can also use the Valentine cookies to create the perfect gift for that someone special. Putting together a Valentine cookie gift basket is fun and easy.

First, take a small or medium basket and line it with Valentine print tissue paper. Next, get some red or pink cling wrap and make individual serving size packets of your significant other's favorite cookies. For example, if they love chocolate chip cookies, fill one small bag with chocolate chip. If they also like peanut butter cookies, you can fill another bag with peanut butter cookies.

If your significant other is diabetic, you can fill the basket with sugar-free cookies. Also include some of his or her other favorite foods in your cookie basket along with a note or Valentine's Day card.

Valentine's Day is a great time to use your culinary talents to create a unique and personalized gift for the special person in your life. Valentine cookies are a great gift idea for adults and children alike.

Have fun and enjoy those wonderful sweet treats!
