Humor is a great way to congratulate a newly-engaged couple. Depending on how close you are to the couple, humor might be best received from someone who is a close friend of the bride, the groom, or both. If you're less familiar with the couple, it may be a good idea to check out a different section for engagement poems.
Example # 1: Focusing on the couple's unique sense of who they are - weirdoes!
We are all a little weird
Example # 2: A brief, to the point engagement poem for a couple who's open to crude humor only!
Let's face it, for years
Perhaps you don't feel comfortable with the more humorous approach. If that's the case, something a bit more sentimental would probably be appropriate. Here is a few examples you could use.
Example # 1: A quote from William Shakespeare.
"No sooner met but they looked;
Example # 2: A common but timeless sentiment about the joy of a couple in love, which could be used as an engagement poem.
Dance like no one is watching
Maybe none of these engagement poems just seem to be what you're looking for. In that case, write your own sentiment for the card! It might seem like something you can't do if you've never tried before, but it will be easy.
Just sit yourself down at a table with a paper and pencil. Write down some words (adjectives, nouns, whatever comes to mind, really) that you think about when you hear the words love, marriage, etc. Then write down some words or phrases that remind you of the couple (as a whole or each as individuals). This is your brainstorming - now you're ready to put it together in the form of a poem.
You'll have to arrange things a few different ways, decide if you prefer rhyming or abstract, and how personal you'd like to go. But when all is said and done, you are more than capable of writing a lovely engagement poem for your friends. Whether you use a line from this article, or you do some research and come up with your own original poem, your friends will be blessed by the time you've taken for them!
