Middle School Graduation Speeches - Areas to Cover and Pointers to Keep in Mind

Are you seeking ideas and pointers for crafting middle school graduation speeches?

A major event in a young person's life is the move from middle school to high school. Middle school graduation is a step out of childhood and into young adulthood.

More schools are making this milestone more significant by conducting middle school graduation ceremonies - ceremonies filled with pride and hope for the future. Young scholars are being asked to prepare and present middle school graduation speeches to mark this event.

Middle school graduation speeches are usually delivered by the individual with the highest grade point average or through a vote by the graduating class. Being asked to give your middle school's commencement speech is an honor. There are many areas that you can cover when giving your speech. There are also some keys points that you will want to remember when delivering your address.

First, it is important to introduce yourself. Your teachers and classmates may know who you are, but there will be many guests at this event. Also, take the time to welcome and thank the guests who are present to help you and your classmates mark this event. Let them know who you are and what an honor it is to speak to them that day.

Talk about the year that has just passed and what it meant to all the students. Avoid talking only about yourself (it is a good idea to leave the word "I" out of your speech). You want to make sure that you talk about the entire class experience, not just one or two people.

This is also a good rule of thumb when talking about your teachers. Don't focus on just one or two teachers. Just as your class is a team, your teachers are as well. They all shared in the responsibility of getting you to this point. Middle school graduation speeches shouldn't focus on one teacher alone.

Avoid cliches in your middle school graduation speech. They are overdone and boring. Everyone has heard the phrases "it's time to fly on our own," and "as we set out to a new horizon." Instead, talk about how you can take what everyone learned in middle school to be a success in high school. Encourage your classmates to find their own voice in high school.

Remind them that the next four years are the years where they will be making major life decisions (whether or not to go to college and where, what kind of work they want to do, where they want to be). Also, talk about how each of them has grown over the years. Middle school graduation speeches should include words of encouragement for the upcoming high school freshman.

As part of your middle school graduation speech, talk about some of the important events from your class. Did your class go on any trips? Did they perform any plays or concerts? Include these items in your speech. Talk about the clubs and organizations that students were involved in, including any sports or other events. Talk about how these events also made your class a success.

At the end of your middle school graduation speech, remember to thank everyone again. You may want to include some inspirational quotes or a poem at the end of your speech. An example of a poem to close your speech on is the poem "School Life" by Cheryl Theseira below:

School is a daily routine for us
In the morning, we're sure to make a fuss
Even when the sun is still not up,
Here we are, awake at 6am sharp

We feel that school is such a bore
We feel that school is such a chore
Parents say, "School's great! Now, go!"
We say, "Well, what do you know?"

Late a minute and we have to run
Eyes half open, shoelaces undone
We reach school and we see our friends,
Immediately, the torture ends

We have a chat and go with the flow
Then the bell rings, it is time to go
We may at times find school stressful
To have some fun, we have to bend some rules

Talk back to teachers, and detention we serve
No doubt, it is sometimes what we deserve
Sometimes they are as cold as ice
And other times they're actually really nice

They teach us and give us a helping hand
They're forever ready to listen and be a friend
They have built much confidence in us
Just not when they are being really harsh

Over the years of education,
Never have we had so much learning with action
Such as camps, experiments, concerts and activities
We've learnt so much and even saved the trees

A wise teacher once said aloud -
Success is failure turned inside out
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit
Rest if you must, but don't you quit

Some may see school as a torture chamber
Some cannot wait for the holidays in December
But it depends on how we look at school
Honestly, positively, school is cool!

Just remember, whatever you decide to include in your middle school graduation speech, this is the time you are making a step from childhood into the exciting world of young adulthood. This is a ceremony to celebrate that step.

All the best preparing your middle school graduation speech!
