Student Speeches for Graduation - Ideas and Topics You Could Talk About

Are you seeking useful tips, pointers and ideas for student speeches for graduation?

While not many students will ever have to get up in front of the podium at graduation to speak, the salutatorian and valedictorian will certainly be among those sharing their thoughts on their school career, friends, parents, and teachers.

Finding the right student speeches for graduation can mean the difference between one that inspires, informs, and entertains, and one that falls flat. The last thing any graduate wants to be remembered for is one of the student speeches for graduation that bombed.

There are some things that you should keep in mind when trying to find or write your own graduation speech that will help keep it fresh, lively, and intriguing to your fellow graduates and their family members.

It's not enough to go up to the podium and recite the challenges that the new graduating class is going to face, or what they've gone through. The speech is meant to celebrate the accomplishment and hail forth the coming months and years in these young lives as they look to the future with eagerness and hope.

Student speeches at graduation do not have to praise unworthy teachers or scold parents. They should not incite anger, but rather inspire confidence and hope. Here are some topics and ideas that you can use to write the perfect student speeches for graduation.

  • Praise the accomplishments of the class - What did your fellow classmates do during your time together? Did they manage to graduate a high percentage of the students? Did they change the way the school operates? Did they inspire hope and change throughout the community? If they didn't do much of anything, or you can't think of someone off the top of your head, ask your fellow classmates. There might have been a number of things small groups did that you weren't even aware of.

  • Mention humorous events that occurred - Every class has its clowns. They also have moments that may have seemed frightening, unnerving, or uncomfortable at the time, but when they are well in the past, they can actually bring humor to the graduation ceremony.

  • Mention news events - Celebrities who find themselves constantly in trouble are a great source to highlight what each graduation student should not aspire to become. Mentioning such things during student speeches for graduation usually gets a few laughs.

  • Offer advice - If you had friends ask you for advice over the years, whether it was about a class or a boy they liked, share that same wisdom with your fellow classmates.

  • Mention where everyone is headed - If you know where your graduating classmates are heading in their life, whether across the country or around the world, let the attendees know about these inspirational steps that are being taken.

When writing student speeches for graduation, you want to make sure that you keep the entire speech engaging, not boring, and do not run too long with your speech. If you are allotted ten minutes, do not exceed ten minutes.

Also, don't cut your speech short to five minutes. You earned the right to speak in front of your class, so take advantage of it, speak confidently, and make sure you are humorous when you do.

All the best!
