Retirement Party Jokes - Important Tips, Ideas and Pointers

Are you looking for tips and ideas for retirement party jokes?

Like turning 50, retiring can often be the doorway to a lot of jokes and good natured ribbing when it concerns getting older.

Retirement parties can be a lot of fun and retirement party jokes can help set the mood for a great evening, as long as the person that the party is being held for has the right sense of humor.

Oftentimes, someone is called upon to make a speech at a retirement party. This is usually the person that is hosting the party itself, such as a co-worker or the best friend or spouse of the retiree. It is this person that is usually called upon to provide the humor during the jokes.

Retirement party jokes can range from one liners like "Warning: Retiree - knows it all and has plenty of time to tell you about it" or complete jokes that might take a little time to tell. For example, one retirement joke goes:

A woman came home to find her retired husband waving a rolled up newspaper round his head.

Wife: 'What are you doing dear?'
Husband: 'Swatting flies - I got 3 males and 2 females'

Wife: 'How do you know which gender they were?'
Husband: 'Easy - 3 were on the beer, and the other 2 were on the phone'

It can also be funny to make fun of songs and to change the lyrics for a retirement party. For instance, how about "You're So Varicose Vein" by Carly Simon, "I Can't See Clearly Now" by Johnny Nash, "I Get By with a Little Help from Depends" by the Beatles, or "You Can't Always Pee When You Want" by the Rolling Stones?

Of course, when it comes to retirement party jokes, the important thing to remember is the person's sense of humor. Although most people will probably find some humor funny, not everyone likes the same kind of humor. You might want to forgo the raunchy humor, for instance, if you think that it's simply going to make the person feel uncomfortable. After all, you want them to laugh, not cringe from embarrassment.

Tailoring the jokes to the person and finding the right jokes for his / her humor is essential. Plus, it helps if he / she finds it funny, since it's his / her party that you're telling the jokes at in the first place.

You also want to make sure that your retirement party jokes are in good nature. Not everyone feels good about retiring and there are some pressures, mostly financial, that come with retirement that can make it a stressful time. Therefore, make sure that your jokes are light hearted.

Lastly, you want to make sure that you keep it short. Nobody likes long speeches and carrying on, even when you're telling jokes and being funny, will eventually lose everyone's attention. Keep your speech and your retirement party jokes funny to guarantee that everyone has a good time and sees the humor in the situation.
