My friend Aaron is an avid fisherman; to be honest, I don't know how the man made time to date and pursue a woman. When he and [his now wife] Monica had been together for a few months, he decided this was "the one" for him.

He took her out on a fishing boat, which was a normal way for the two to spend time together. While she was on one end of the boat, he was on the other, tying what was probably the most secure knot he's ever tied in his life as he tied her engagement ring to the end of the fishing line. He casted out (cautiously I'm sure), and after a minute or two, he asked Monica to hold his pole for him, saying that he needed to switch lures.

While he fumbled in the tacklebox, he asked her to reel his in and start taking the existing "lure" off. When she reeled it in, she curiously grabbed for whatever it was dangling on the end of the line, and when she saw it, her jaw dropped.

She turned to look at Aaron, who was on his knee beside her, and he said, "You're the best catch of my life, will you marry me?" Of course, she said yes, and they were married 6 months later!

The point of all of this is that the best marriage proposals are the ones that are thought through and made personal. If a man wasn't a true fisherman, and he tried to propose like in the story, the woman may have been pretty confused, and perhaps a little disappointed if the knot wasn't tied quite right and there was nothing to be found at the end of the line!
