Easy Halloween Treats - Simple Recipes to Try

When it comes to Halloween and parties that go with it, you want to be able to whip up some fantastic treats in the limited time you have. It's time to discover some of the many wonderful and easy Halloween treats.



"It's a Hoot"

The really fun part about this treat is that it can be very healthy and is great for kids to make.

You will need:

  • Bagels, sliced in half
  • Cream cheese to cover the bagels
  • Slices fruits such as strawberries, bananas, kiwis and even melons
    (You can substitute the fruit slices with other things such as sliced pepperoni, black olives and other sliced veggies)

    Directions:

  • Toast the bagel slices, or don't, depending on your preference.
  • Cover with cream cheese.
  • At the top of the bagel, use the sliced kiwis or bananas and blueberries or grapes to make the eyes (blueberries are the pupil).
  • Use a sliced strawberry to make the nose.
  • Apple or melon slices can make the eyebrows, feathers around the mouth.
  • Grapes can complete the mouth.

    "Cockeyed Cuckoos"

    This easy Halloween treat is a great way to make sure that all of your trick or treaters have something good in their stomach before they head out to the land of sugar.

    For this easy Halloween treat recipe, you will need:

  • Meatballs cooked in marinara sauce (two per open faced sandwich).
  • Cream cheese
  • Rolls, split and toasted; one per sandwich.
  • Orange or yellow sweet peppers, cut.
  • Black olives; chopped (two per sandwich).
  • Julienne carrots and chives.

    Directions:

  • Place two of the meatballs on top of a split, toasted roll.
  • Make little balls of cream cheese as the eyes and press them onto the meatballs.
  • Press the black olives into the cream cheese to make pupils.
  • Arrange the pepper pieces to make eyebrows and a beak (above the cream cheese, and between the meatballs at the bottom).
  • Top with the carrots or chives.

    Pumpkin Cream Sandwiches

    We tried this recipe from RealSimple.com and really liked it. These easy Halloween treats might not look like spooky treats, but the sweet-spicy taste will be a welcome break from all the sugar you're likely eating around this time.

    You will need:

  • A half cup of canned pumpkin puree
  • One quarter cup of granulated sugar
  • One third cup of brown sugar
  • One half teaspoon vanilla extract - the pure kind is good for this recipe
  • Three tablespoons of room temperature unsalted butter
  • One half teaspoon of baking powder
  • One cup flour (all purpose)
  • One quarter teaspoon of baking soda
  • One egg (large)
  • One half teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • Two thirds cup of room temperature cream cheese
  • One quarter cup heavy cream
  • One quarter cup powdered (confectioner's) sugar
  • One quarter teaspoon kosher salt

    Directions for this easy Halloween treat recipe:

  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Beat butter, granulated sugar and brown sugar until smooth and creamy.
  • Add the pumpkin puree, vanilla and the egg until they are well mixed.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and pumpkin pie spice.
  • Slowly add the second mixture to the sugar mixture and beat on low speed to mix together.
  • Once all combined, drop heaping spoonfuls of the mixture onto baking sheets (parchment or foil-lined).
  • Allow them to bake for about 10 minutes, or until lightly browned and puffed.
  • In a separate bowl, prepare the filling by mixing the heavy cream, powdered sugar and cream cheese until smooth and combined.
  • Once cookies are cooled, spread the filling onto the flat sides of half of the cookies, and then top with the remaining cookies.
