Halloween Appetizers and Finger Foods - Fun, Easy and Spooky Recipes

Are you wondering what delicious Halloween appetizers to serve at your upcoming party?

Although most Halloween parties are all about costumes, fun, and games, having just the right appetizers can make the food as bit of a hit as the costumes, if not more. In fact, there are entire websites devoted to creative ghoulish appetizers for your haunted Halloween party.

Halloween appetizers will bring out the creative side of you. Let your imagination run wild! You can take some of the most ordinary appetizers and turn them into extraordinary Halloween creations, such as the Deviled Egg Eyeballs described below. Tuck the recipes, use parchment paper and burn the edges for a nice touch, for your ghoulish delights in mini coffins alongside each dish. Your guests will appreciate not only your fabulously freaky finger foods, but also your generous nature in sharing your culinary secrets.

  • Deviled Egg Eyeballs: Make your usual deviled egg recipe. Add a green olive to the center of the yolk mixture with the pimento facing up. Using some red paste food coloring and a toothpick, lightly trace some veins throughout the eyeball. This is an easy but delicious treat that all of your guests will enjoy.

  • Stuffed Cockroaches: For this Halloween appetizer, slice some dates part way open and stuff with cream cheese with finely chopped walnuts mixed in. Arrange them on a bed of lettuce. A creepy crawly that is oh so yummy.

  • Barbecued Bat Wings: Add some black, blue, and green food coloring to your favorite barbecue sauce to make it dark black. Cook chicken wings drenched in the sauce either in the oven or on the barbecue. After cooking for approximately 20 minutes, dunk them in the sauce again and put them back on to cook until the sauce is thickened and slightly blackened. Make sure you add a sign in the shape of a tombstone to warn your guests what this spooktacular Halloween appetizer is.

  • Brain Spread: The shrimp make this spread look pretty realistic! Heat up an undiluted can of cream of mushroom soup. Mix in 8 oz of cream cheese, and 1 envelope of unflavored gelatin that has been softened in 1/4 cup of water. Fold in chopped green onions, 1 cup of mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, and 3 pounds of cooked shrimp. Add some seasoning to taste. Pour into a lightly oiled mold, chilling until firm. Serve this Halloween appetizer with your favorite crackers.

  • Spooky Spider's Nest: Make a traditional 7-layer dip something really special by turning it into a fabulous spider's nest. After arranging the dip, spoon your sour cream into a baggie and cut a hole in one corner. Squeeze the sour cream on top of the guacamole layer in concentric circles or octagon shapes. Using a knife handle, drag the handle through the sour cream making the lines into a web shape. Sprinkle shredded lettuce in a circle around the dip, then add tomatoes, chopped green onions, and grated cheese. This is a Halloween appetizer that will be a hit with all of your guests.

  • Punch: Don't forget to make your favorite punch for your appetizer table. Add a floating hand made out of red juice that has been poured into a non-powdered latex glove and frozen. Peel the glove off to add the 'hand' to the punch. Creepy. You can also make extra 'fingers' to add to the punch cups to help keep the punch cold.

These are just a few fabulous Halloween appetizers that are fun and easy to make. This website has numerous pages devoted to Halloween food ideas, so be sure to check them out, either by browsing around or using its search function. Enjoy planning your next Halloween party and don't forget the witch's fingers!
