Thanksgiving Craft Ideas for this Special Holiday

Are you seeking Thanksgiving craft ideas for just about anyone of any age?

Thanksgiving is the time of year when we give thanks for the things that we have and to consider ourselves lucky for all of the blessings that have been bestowed upon us.

It is far too easy in this hustle and bustle world to take the things that we do have for granted. And it is far too easy to let them get lost in the frantic pace of life.

As many people have taken the holiday for granted, focusing on football or shopping the day after Thanksgiving, it's important to let our children have positive experiences and some fun at the holiday.

So what are some fun and meaningful Thanksgiving craft ideas?

A Thankful Leaf Wreath

This craft is easy and fun. Just cut out a number of colorful leaves from colored paper and have your child write down one thing that they are thankful for on each leaf. Then, they can arrange these leaves in a circle, creating a 'wreath' of things they are thankful for. This Thanksgiving craft idea will be a great addition to the table centerpiece for your next Thanksgiving meal.

Tracking the Mayflower's Voyage

Using any world map, you can work with your children to have them track the voyage of the Mayflower, the ship that brought the original pilgrims to the New World. Use a colored pen to have them trace the entire trip, from England to Plymouth Rock. You can have your children hang their map on the wall for Thanksgiving, to remind everyone of the origin of our nation, and the holiday.

The colorful turkey

One of the easiest things that kids can make involves colored construction paper and some glue or tape. For this Thanksgiving craft idea, basically, what you need to do is have your children trace out their feet and hands on construction paper, cut the shapes out, and they will be able to make their very own turkey for the holiday. The feet shapes would be for the body of the turkey and the hands would be for the prominent tail feathers.

The kids can decorate the turkey in any way that they see fit, and it's always a good idea to encourage them to be creative.

Drawing a pilgrim

What are other fun Thanksgiving craft ideas? When you have your kids learn to draw a pilgrim, you can encourage them to draw a few more.

A pilgrim is simple to draw. All you need to do is to make a circle for the head, a square top hat, and then a simple white tunic-style shirt. It doesn't require any major artistic skills. When they are done creating this pilgrim, then have them draw a few more. While they are invested in this craft project, you can take the time to teach them the true origins and meaning of Thanksgiving.

When the pilgrims first landed in the New World at Plymouth Rock, they were unprepared to handle the harsh New England weather. More than half of the pilgrims perished during that winter, but thanks to some of the local native Indians who taught them how to plant and grow crops, the rest managed to survive. As a way to pay back their gratitude, they invited the Indians to break bread with them, beginning the tradition that is still celebrated to this day.

There are many wonderful and creative Thanksgiving craft ideas that can spice up the Thanksgiving holiday. The next time you are expecting family at your house for this holiday, be sure to have some fun crafts for the kids to do. These Thanksgiving craft ideas build wonderful memories for years to come.
