Depending on how many tables you have to decorate (based on the number of guests planning to attend your big day) and how much money you're willing to spend, you've got a wide array of options. You'll also want to decide on elegance, lighting, and other aspects, as well.
One great wedding centerpiece idea is to use flowers. A small vase with a single stem of the type of rose, daisy, or lily used in your bridal bouquet is a simple and elegant way to tie in your centerpieces with the rest of the wedding. A single ribbon tied around the stem or around the mouth of the vase that matches the color of your bridesmaid dresses is also a nice touch.
If you've got the okay from the reception hall to use real wax candles, put some tea-lights around each table, and toss a few pieces of "just married" confetti on, too. This will be a fairly inexpensive way to have a beautiful centerpiece on each table.
Another of the wedding centerpiece ideas is to put a picture frame of the couple, preferably an engagement photo or other formal portrait, on each table. Up the romance by printing the image in black and white, and put each in a simple, modern square black frame. Again, use some tea-light candles and lay a single-stem red rose on each table, as well. Laid on top of a solid black or white tablecloth, the use of the red rose will be romantic and stunning.

Taking a bit of a different approach, buy a glass "rose bowl" for each table. Then you'll want to fill the bottom inch or two of the bowl with smooth-tinted glass "stones"; pick a glossy clear or a color that matches the theme of your wedding. Fill the bowl just over half way full with water, and add a floating candle to each.
Then, place on top of a square mirror, which does a great job of doubling the light from the candle, and makes for a great romantic setting. Add on a bit of artificial ivy or tulle to the base of the bowl, and it's complete. Overall, this wedding centerpiece idea makes for a beautiful, conversation-starting piece.
A suggestion if you're not allowed to have wax candles is to instead put a small male beta fish (also called a Siamese fighting fish) into each bowl. Offer them as gifts for people, especially children, to take home at the end of the night.
There are some great wedding centerpiece ideas out there, and these are just a few. Use something that's been done before, or come up with something that is completely different and matches your unique tastes exactly! It's your day, your party, and your decision!
