Thanksgiving Dessert Recipes to Stir Up the Sweet Tooth

Are you seeking some delicious Thanksgiving dessert recipes?

Even though we've all eaten a large turkey dinner, it's amazing that somehow we manage to eat a little of all the delicious Thanksgiving desserts our hosts have to offer.

Here is a Thanksgiving dessert recipe that combines three pies in one and makes 8 servings.

Thanksgiving Apple, Pecan and Sweet Potato Pie

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoon butter
  • 1 small sweet potato, peeled and sliced
  • 1 tart apple, peeled, cored and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 9" deep dish pastry shell, unbaked (thaw if frozen)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 cup pecan halves for decoration

Directions for this Thanksgiving dessert recipe:

  • Combine brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon salt, water and butter in a medium saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until boiling.
  • Add the apple and sweet potato slices, then cover and cook for 7 to 8 minutes, still stirring occasionally, until slices are tender but not overcooked.
  • Remove from heat and add lemon juice.
  • Let mixture cool for 10 minutes, then spread the fruit mixture evenly over the base of the unbaked pastry shell.
  • Combine the egg, sugar, 1/4 teaspoon salt, ginger and cloves; blend in the evaporated milk and whisk to mix.
  • Pour over the apple and sweet potato mixture and allow to combine slightly.
  • Top with the pecan halves and bake in 375 degree oven for 40 minutes, or until just set.

Chocolate Fondue with Fruit

For a different Thanksgiving dessert recipe, why not make an easy chocolate fondue and serve it with fruit?

You will need:

  • 4 oz sugar
  • l4 fl oz water
  • 14 oz dark chocolate, broken in pieces
  • 2 tablespoon light Karo syrup
  • Fruits of your choice cut into bite-sized pieces.

Directions for this Thanksgiving dessert recipe:

  • Heat the sugar and water in a saucepan until the sugar melts and the mixture resembles a syrup.
  • Melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of simmering water. (Do not let the base of the bowl touch the water.)
  • Add the Karo syrup and enough of the warm syrup mixture to form a smooth sauce.
  • Pour into a fondue pot and keep warm, but note that the chocolate mixture will be very hot, so allow it to cool a little before serving.
  • Serve with the fruit and fondue forks for dipping.

English Trifle

Because our family comes from England, our traditional Thanksgiving dessert is, of course, an English trifle. The Thanksgiving dessert recipe below, while not totally authentic, comes very close to the real thing.

You will need:

  • 2 3oz packages of raspberry Jell-O
  • 1 prepared angel food cake or a package of ladyfingers
  • 3 3oz packages of vanilla pudding; ready cooked or instant pudding is fine
  • 1 large can of raspberries or fresh raspberries gently cooked in a little water - save the juice!
  • 1 16oz carton heavy cream

Directions for this Thanksgiving dessert recipe:

  • Break up the angel food cake or ladyfingers and place them at the bottom of a large glass bowl.
  • Scatter the drained raspberries over the cake.
  • Make up the Jell-O, substituting the raspberry juice for part of the water required.
  • Allow to cool until you're sure the warm Jell-O won't crack your glass bowl, then pour it over the raspberries and cake in the bowl, making sure all the cake is covered.
  • Place in the refrigerator to set - overnight is fine.
  • Make up the vanilla pudding and allow to cool slightly.
  • Spread over the cake, raspberry and Jell-O layer in the bowl and return to the refrigerator.
  • Once the pudding layer is cool, whip the cream and spread over the top.
  • You can decorate the trifle with fresh raspberries or sprinkles if you wish.
  • Serve in bowls and forget about your waistline!
