Usually, a fundraiser is conducted for specific reasons - a church might need a roof, school band members might need money for uniforms or funds for a specific trip, etc. Of course, the money raised depends on their fundraising choice.
Charities rely heavily on fundraising. For many, their fundraising activities are an ongoing practice, often the sole basis for their financial needs. Private schools and universities are among the many that rely on fundraising on a regular basis. Independent churches are also reliant on fundraising - even mainstream organizations understand the importance of raising money. This is particularly true for youngsters who wish to experience the mission field.
With so much relying on the revenue brought in from fundraising, it is important to choose just the right avenue for raising what your group needs. Often, when it comes to unique fundraising ideas, it is a matter of getting to know what works in your area or for your group, and most organizations start with the tried and true methods before delving into anything large scale - such as bake sales or car washes.
Other good choices for unique fundraising ideas might include raffles, with local retail stores donating for the worthy cause, or using items like handmade quilts or a custom cabinet - or even a huge container of candy with an unknown number of pieces to be guessed upon. The prize can be a dinner for two for a correct guess at the candy, or, in the case of the merchandize, the items themselves. A dollar a guess is a good gamble in almost anyone's book.
Banquets are another affair often used - these can be planned for specific holidays, such as Valentine's Day or Mother's Day. With advertisement and a bit of planning, and perhaps some entertainment, this can be a perfect addition. Luncheons are another good avenue - especially for women's groups, where the women themselves can prepare countless dishes, side dishes, beverages and desserts. A ticket to the event can be a specific cost per person or a discounted price per couple.

A popular fundraiser nowadays is no event at all. Tickets sell for $5.00 and you get to stay at home to do nothing. This saves time and effort on the part of the organization and more money can be used toward the cause. Of course, an event can be planned and executed, including competition game night out for men and boys or a bazaar for the gals, or how about DVD night with large screen, popcorn and drinks included for a certain price per head.
Auctions are always fun and could be another unique fundraising idea. Have everyone in the organization donate a gift of any type. It should be of good quality but not necessarily expensive. The fun comes in when people examine the boxes before bidding and hold onto them until the end before everyone opens them together. Money is raised and it is lots of fun.
For the day of the big game, it can be something so simple as selling hot dogs and cokes, nachos with cheese or ranch, burgers and chips or chili with cheese over a bed of corn chips. And who doesn't want to get in on the annual talent show?
