Choosing Fun Baby Shower Recipes - Tips and Ideas for Selecting Party Foods and Drinks

Are you seeking ideas and inspiration for choosing fun baby shower recipes?

The food is often what I remember most from a party. Just because it's a baby shower and possibly held early in the day, doesn't mean you have to serve boring, bland food or ten types of quiche. (Though, in fairness, my baby shower - organized by a friend - had quiche, banana bread, and muffins - all the standards!)

There are ways to prepare fun, delicious and appealing foods for a baby shower that link in with your theme and decor.

You may be wondering, "How do I link food to theme?"

Think color. If you've chosen green in your palate, think penne and pesto, salads, and sugar cookie shapes sprinkled with green icing sugar. The whole menu doesn't have to be green, but one or two things can be, or perhaps one item per course.

Does that give you some inspiration for choosing fun baby shower recipes?

Another way to link food to theme is not through color, but actually through the menu items themselves. For example, a Winnie-the-Pooh themed party could include honey cakes, baklava soaked in honey, honey roasted peanuts, "pigs in a blanket", and of course a cake with Winnie-the-Pooh taking pride of place in the centre.

A rainbow themed party could include Skittles, jellybeans, a bright fruit salad, and a rainbow display of crudites and dips. A strawberry shortcake theme.. well, you've got your answer right there.

Twins of either gender can have their own theme. Think "double" when you're planning this menu. Use a two-layer dip, for example, with a guacamole layer on the bottom and a cheese or sour cream layer on top. You can also use two-layered Jell-O. (These can be in your party colors). To get these to set correctly, make one layer, chill thoroughly in a mould in the fridge, prepare the next layer, pour on top of the first layer and refrigerate immediately. For triplets, you could add a third, cool whip or cream cheese layer on top.

When thinking about fun baby shower recipes and foods, don't forget the drinks! Lime-aid or green appletinis (whether virgin or not) could tie in, for example, with a green palate at a baby shower. Pink grapefruit juice would be appropriate for a pink, girl themed baby shower. Lemonade for yellow palates, orange juice for orange palates - you get the picture. Also, did you know you can make blue colored drinks or punch? This was a shock for me to discover, as there is not much blue food in the world. Here are some fun baby shower recipes for such drinks:

Virgin Appletini Cocktail recipe

  • 3 Shots Sprite
  • 4 Shots Rose's Cocktail Infusions Sour Apple (or to taste)
  • Ice

Instructions - Pour into a shaker, shake, strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with your party theme.

    Baby Blue Punch Recipe

  • 1 pack of blueberry flavored drink mix
  • 1 bottle of Sprite or 7up, about two liters of it
  • 1 bottle of white cranberry juice, about 64 ounces of it
  • Vanilla ice cream, about 8 scoops of it
  • Sugar to taste, or another healthier alternative

Instructions - Mix and stir the soda, juice and drink mix in a big punch bowl. Add sugar according to your taste. Drop in dollops of ice cream (they will float and eventually melt - you may want to leave this step until the end). Decorate with floating rubber duckies (cleaned and unused, please!)
