Kids' Christmas Recipes - Foods to Prepare with the Children

Cherries Piled in Snow

We tried this fun kids' Christmas recipe from apples4theteacher.com and loved it. It is easy and takes very little time to make.

Ingredients:

  • 1 can of cherry pie filling
  • 1 jar of green Maraschino cherries - a small jar will do
  • 1 package of chopped pecans - again, a small pack will do
  • 1/2 bag of mini marshmallows
  • 1 container of whipped topping - thaw it

    Directions:

    In a mixing bowl, pour the cherry pie filling in and then add the green Maraschino cherries and stir. Add the pecans, marshmallows and fold in the whipped topping. Mix everything together, stirring well. Cover the dessert and put in the refrigerator. Serve cool.

    Chocolate popcorn with sprinkles

    Here is another kids' Christmas recipe we tried and enjoyed.

    Ingredients:

  • 2 bags of popped popcorn
  • 1 bag of half sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup of light corn syrup
  • 1 cup of butter

    Directions:

  • In a saucepan, combine the chocolate chips, corn syrup, and butter. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until melted.

  • Pour the popcorn into a large bowl and then add the melted chocolate to it. Toss the popcorn well to coat evenly.

  • Put the popcorn in a roasting pan and cook at 300 degrees F for about 30 minutes. Allow it to cool and put in a bowl that is lined with wax paper. This popcorn will stay fresh in an airtight container for about two weeks.

    Hot Cocoa Snowman Soup

    This hot cocoa recipe will warm the hearts of whoever receives this special treat.

    Ingredients:

  • 1 Ziploc bag
  • 1 package of hot cocoa mix
  • 1 cup of mini-marshmallows
  • 1 mini candy cane

    Directions for this kids' Christmas recipe:

    Put the ingredients in the Ziploc bag. Print out the following Snowman Soup poem that is shown below and tape or staple it to the bag. You can arrange these on a platter at parties or give them as gifts.

    With freezing weather drawing near,
    You'll need to warm the spirit.
    So here's a little Snowman Soup,
    Complete with stirring stick.
    Add hot water, sip it slow,
    It's sure to do the trick!

    Colorful Christmas Cookies

    Need more ideas for kids' Christmas recipes? Using Christmas cookie cutouts and making and decorating Christmas cookies is a great way to spend an afternoon with your children. You will need to purchase cookie cutout shapes as well as the ingredients for the cookies, frosting, and decorative items.

    Sugar Cookies

    Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of softened butter
  • 1 1/2 cups of sugar
  • 2 3/4 cups of flour
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

    Directions for this kids' Christmas recipe:

  • In a medium bowl, add the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Stir.

  • In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together and then add the egg and vanilla and blend a little more. Add the dry ingredients and mix until it is the consistency of dough.

  • Roll the dough out on a clean, flat surface and use your cookie cutters to create shaped cookies. Place them on a greased cookie sheet and bake for 3 to 10 minutes or until light brown.

    Frosting

    Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of confectioners' sugar
  • 1/4 cup of melted butter
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons of milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla
  • Food coloring, optional
  • Sprinkles, optional

    Directions:

  • Combine the confectioners' sugar and butter in a bowl until very smooth. Add the milk and vanilla and mix with an electric mixer. This may take a few minutes. You can separate the frosting into different bowls and add food coloring.

  • Decorate the sugar cookies as you'd like and add sprinkles for that extra touch.
