Family Halloween Costumes - Ideas for Team Themes

Are you seeking inspiration and ideas for family Halloween costumes?

Halloween is definitely a favorite holiday for many children and adults throughout America. Decorating homes and brainstorming about possible costumes is abundant.

Halloween is not just for children anymore, as adults and families have taken more of an interest in exciting festivities.

Costumes are a huge part of Halloween and there are so many costume ideas to choose from. Family Halloween costumes are becoming more and more popular. Also, with some budgets quite low, many are opting to take the time to design and create their own costumes.

Family Halloween costumes basically consist of everyone in the family dressing up as a character in a certain "theme", movie, or television show. For example, you can have your family dress up as different characters from the Scooby Doo movie, including Shaggy, Fred, Daffney, Velma, and Scooby Doo.

You could also go with The Toy Story theme and dress up as Buzz Lightyear, Woody, Jessie, Mr. Potato Head, Bo Peep, or Evil Dr. Porkchop. Another great family costume idea is Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, including Snow White, Happy, Sleepy, Sneezy, Bashful, Grumpy, Dopey, and Doc.

For those interested in sports, you could dress up as football, basketball, or baseball players and cheerleaders. Wear your favorite jerseys and don't forget to include equipment such as a football, baseball glove and bat, or basketball.

If you have children in the preschool or elementary age, consider going with popular television show themes such as Sponge Bob, Blues Clues, and characters from The Disney Channel or Nick Jr. If you go with Sesame Street, you can dress up as Ernie, Bert, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, or Oscar.

When brainstorming family Halloween costume ideas, don't forget classic movies like, The Wizard of Oz and The Chronicles of Narnia.

Going back into history is always a hit as well. Consider dressing up in the styles of the 60's, 70's, and 80's. It is relatively easy to find costumes to put together in for these eras at thrift stores or a friend or relative's closet.

You can also dress up as a "scary" Halloween family, including ghosts, witches, skeletons, and mummies. If you like horror movies, consider wearing costumes from movies like Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th.

Please keep safety in mind as you and your family dress up for Halloween. Be sure that you can be seen by carrying a flashlight or reflectors. If you use make-up, use the kind that is hypoallergenic so that it will be gentler on your face. Keep a good eye on your children and don't let them get too far ahead or behind you. Also, before your children eat their candy, be sure that you inspect it and make sure that it all looks all right.

A great way to end your Halloween evening is to rent a scary movie and watch it as a family. You can snack on the candy that you get and cuddle up and enjoy each other's company! Celebrating Halloween as a family is a fun tradition that you can look forward to each year. And, of course, family Halloween costumes can make the occasion that much more enjoyable.

Have lots of fun!
