Garden or Backyard Wedding Ideas - Tips and Inspiration for a Great Party

Are you seeking inspiring garden or backyard wedding ideas?

The idea of a backyard wedding might sound good for your budget, but you could be afraid that the affair would have the air of being too casual. However, it doesn't have to be this way.

In fact, it is highly possible to have an elegant and charming backyard wedding, while still making it a very economical option.

Some couples prefer having backyard weddings because they simply love their backyard. They might have spent a lot of time landscaping it and making it beautiful, and they honestly can't think of a better place to hold their ceremony.

On the other hand, for other couples, a limited budget might mean that they need to hold their ceremony and reception in a place that is more reasonably priced, and hence they consider backyard wedding ideas. Instead of spending money on a venue, they might choose to instead spend their money on decorations, food, entertainment, or even the honeymoon.

Regardless as to the "whys", there are several things that you can do to make your own backyard wedding unique and special.

To begin with, backyard wedding ideas you might want to consider include renting a tent. A tent usually costs a few hundred dollars, but it can definitely be worth it if you experience inclement weather. Some couples use the tent for their reception. It can be beautifully decorated with lights, lanterns, and other decorations. Plus, if it rains, you have someplace to seek shelter in.

Speaking of lights... you can be very creative in your lighting when it comes to backyard weddings. Solar powered lights can be great options, because you can stick them all around your yard and they don't require extra electrical outlets or wiring. Plus, when it gets dark, they come on automatically. It is important to put them out early, though, so that the sun has a chance to charge them.

Lanterns, candles, torches, and even Christmas lights can be strung up around the yard to give it a whimsical feel. Consider stringing lanterns from trees, wrapping Christmas lights around your porch or deck, and sticking torches around your food tables. These backyard wedding ideas for lighting are all more intimate than using harsh flood lights or spotlights.

If you have flower beds, then make sure that they are pruned and cleaned before your ceremony. You should also mow your yard two days before the actual ceremony so that loose grass doesn't stick to the shoes of your guests.

If you want to have beautiful flowers but you don't want to spend a ton of money on them, then consider picking wild flowers and placing them in inexpensive vases on your tables. You can also dry flower petals and place them in glass bowls, which can be set strategically around your reception area as well. In the fall, don't underestimate the beauty of colorful leaf arrangements, pumpkins, gourds, and even hay bales - these can be aesthetically pleasing backyard wedding ideas for decoration.

If you are able to, you might want to think about renting tables and chairs for your guests. However, if this is out of your budget, or if you are having a small wedding, then you can be creative in your backyard wedding ideas for seating.

Borrow patio tables and chairs from your friends and bring your own dining room table out into the yard. Although your furniture won't match, you can purchase inexpensive matching tablecloths, if you choose to do so. By placing similar centerpieces on the tables themselves, you can also help tie the look together.

If centerpieces are also out of the question, because flowers can get expensive, then think about large candles. These are inexpensive backyard wedding ideas for centerpieces or decorations, and they will burn all night, adding an intimate glow to your reception. If you set the candles on small mirrors, you will also get a lovely reflection.

Don't forget the interior of your home, too! Your guests will need to use your lavatory facilities, so make sure that they are properly cleaned and decorated as well.

We hope you enjoy these backyard wedding ideas and find them useful. Of course, the important thing to remember is to have fun and to enjoy your big day!
