Dinner Invitation Wording - Tips and Ideas on What to Write

Do you need some ideas and inspiration for dinner invitation wording?

So you've decided to host a dinner party. You know what you'll cook, you know how it will go, but you haven't a clue as to what to put on the invitations for this event.

No problem, you're not alone. Dinner invitations can be tough, because these are generally smaller gatherings, but the invitations are no less important than if you were to have a large party, so how should you word the invitation?

  • For dinner invitation wordings, always make sure you include the essentials, such as time, date and place. Include your address and RSVP information so you can plan accordingly. Inviting a guest who has never been to your home? Consider including a map to make it easy to get there.

  • If you'll be having a themed dinner party, you should make sure to mention this, since your guests may like a heads up, plus, a good theme will keep all of your guests going long after the dinner has been served and cleared. Common themes include Murder Mysteries and Luaus in the summer.

  • Your invitations should also reflect the mood of your event. For instance, if you're having an informal rustic Italian dinner party, you may want to mention something about enjoying a warm, casual meal filled with good friends, good food and good wine. If you're having an informal affair, don't get too formal in your dinner invitation wording, because it might be confusing for your guests.

  • As part of your dinner invitation wording, you will also want to include information about who is holding the event. For instance, if you're having it at your place, why not consider wording an invitation something like this:
"Come join us for an evening of good food, good friends and good wine at our Rustic Italian Dinner party.
Given by Adrienne and Ed Potter.
At 115 Castlewood Drive, Spring Grove
On Saturday, July 23rd At 8:00 pm"

Remember that for your dinner invitation wording, you should include who is invited. For instance, are you just inviting the addressee, or their spouse or significant other as well? How about children? You can often cover this by putting the right names on the address, or if you're planning a "girls' night", you might want to include something about it in the invitations. This will help to avoid any confusion as to who should be attending the event.

Once you have the right wording on your dinner invites, you're going to want to make sure that you send them out with enough response time. Consider sending the invitations out about two to three weeks before the event, and set your RSVP date about five days before the dinner, so you can purchase everything you will need in a timely manner.

A dinner party with some good friends can be a really fun way to pass an evening when you plan it accordingly, and the first thing you need to focus on is your invitations. Since you're having a smaller, more intimate gathering, you can sometimes get away with sending an electronic invitation, but for the added flair and to give your event the importance that you're looking for, there is no better statement than a lovely invitation card with the right dinner invitation wording on it for your party.
