Party Invitation Wording - What to Write for Party Invites

If you are having a party, then figuring out the party invitation wording can be tricky.

There are many things that can be conveyed in the wording of your invitations, from the mood of the party to the dress style to who you are actually inviting. Your wording can make all the difference.

Many times, you might find yourself having parties that are not necessarily child-friendly, even though you might normally love children. So how can you phrase your party invitation wording to let your guests know that it's adult only? Well, one way is to actually include the words "adults only" on the invitation itself.

You can also try setting your party late in the evening so that the start time is typically after the little ones have gone to bed. If it's a formal party, then simply addressing the invitation to the parents and not adding the children's names or "and family" to the invitation can be a hint that the event might not be suitable for the younger ones.

If you want your guests to know that they are allowed to bring a friend or a guest, then adding "and guest" to the invitation is a good way of extending this sentiment. If the person that you are inviting is in a relationship, but not married, then you can still include that person's name on the invitation so that everyone knows that they are welcomed.

The more formal the invitation is, the more formal your guests will expect the attire to be. A casual invitation, especially ones that rhyme and use silly jokes, will let your guests know that casual attire is okay. However, formal language usually denotes formal attire, so keep this in mind when choosing your party invitation wording.

In your party invitation wordings, you should also mention any theme that the party might have. If it's a surprise party, for instance, then make sure that you mention this in the wording, or else the guest of honor might find out prematurely. If you want to have a costume party, or you have special instructions for your guests, then these need to be mentioned in the invitation wording too.

If you're having trouble coming up with something witty or clever for your party invitation wording, then don't be afraid to just use something simple. Not all invitations have to rhyme or have words of wisdom. Plain and simple invitations that merely list the event, date, and time can be good enough in a pinch.

However, if you are looking for something creative and you're having difficulty coming up with something on your own, then you can always use a famous quote, saying, or poem. It doesn't have to a literary or thought-provoking piece, either. In fact, it could be a famous line from a movie, or even a song lyric.

Just don't forget that the tone of your party invitation wording will ultimately set the tone of your party, so if it's formal that you want, then don't use any Dr. Seuss or nursery rhymes on your invitation. On the other hand, if you want something casual and lighthearted, then quoting John Donne might not set the right mood, either.
