Here are some Valentine's Day project ideas to help get you started:

One fun way to keep all the kids in a class happy is to help them make special valentines for their parents. Cut out heart shapes and make an opening in the middle to make the heart look like a picture frame. Have the children decorate it the way they would like using glitter, crayons, markers or paints. Once this is dry, an adult should glue the photo into the frame. Once this is done, cut a square of construction paper. It should be smaller than the heart, but larger than the photo. Glue it to the heart over the photo to help reinforce it and prevent it from falling out of its frame.

If you're doing a Valentine's Day project with your children, you can make treat bags and valentines all in one. Scan a photo of your child and print it out on heavy card stock or matte paper. Print as many as you will need to make little cards. Buy little cellophane bags to fill with wrapped candy for the classroom and fill them up. Fold the card around the cellophane and staple shut in the middle. You'll have your Valentine's cards and treats all made up in one.

Another Valentine's Day project is to make a wreath out of paper conversation hearts with your little ones. You will need a paper plate, cardboard and construction paper in pink, purple, blue and red. Trace around the 9" heart to make a form for the cardboard. Cut out the cardboard circle then cut a smaller circle from the middle, so your wreath shape will be about an inch wide. Fold a piece of paper in half and draw half a 3" heart on it. Cut it out - this will be your form for the rest of the hearts that you will make. Cut out three of each of the colors to make 12 hearts. Unfold them; flatten the crease and use markers, colored pencils or crayons to write Valentine's sayings on them. You can have little ones glue them into place around the wreath form using a glue stick for less mess. Attach yarn to hang it up and let your children enjoy their Valentine's Day project masterpiece.

Looking for something different for your class to make this year? Have them make a love bug. For this Valentine's Day project, you will need a toilet paper roll, pink construction paper, pipe cleaners, glue, paint and markers. Paint the toilet paper tube light purple or pink. Cut out large pink hearts to make the wings. You can keep them uniform by folding a piece of paper in half and drawing half of a 3" heart. Cut it out and use this as your form for the rest of the hearts you will use. Once the paint is dry, have the children draw a face at the top of the tube and attach the "wings" to the back using glue sticks. If you want to add a Valentine's saying to the wings, you can do this before you attach them to the body. Add the pipe cleaners to the top of the toilet paper tube as antenna and you've made a simple and sweet something for your students' parents to enjoy.
